SPEND vs WASTE

Spend and Waste

No usamos correctamente estos dos verbos muchas veces. Spend tiene un sentido positivo mientras que Spend tiene una connotación más bien negativa.

Ambos significan gastar el tiempo, pero Waste tiene una connotación negativa.

To Spend:Tiene una connotación positiva ya que el tiempo es "usado" no "desperdiciado" en este caso.

To Waste: se refiere al mal uso del tiempo ya sea por pocos resultados o ningún resultado.
También puede referirse a que no es usado razonablemente.

You spend money or time on something.
You waste money or time on something. Waste means to spend badly.

Tú gastas (spend) dinero o tiempo en algo.
Tú malgastas (waste) dinero o tiempo en algo. Waste significa malgastar.

·        spend (spent, spent)
He spends his time reading
S    She has spent a lot of money on her wedding dress. (and she thinks that’s money well   spent).

• waste (wasted, wasted)
  He has wasted a lot money on things like that.
  She wastes her time playing silly games.

      You spend a lot of hours watching TV and I think you are wasting your time.

Entonces: To Spend and To Waste se refieren a usar el tiempo o el dinero. Se diferencian en el modo correcto o incorrecto de utilizar ambos.!!!

TO BRING vs TO TAKE

TO BRING vs TO TAKE  (Differences)

Bring: significa traer algo hasta el sitio en el que se está actualmente. 

We ask people to bring things to the place where we are. Bring is used in relation to adestination:

"Bring some food to the party at my house."

"Bring your homework to me"

"Please bring your bag here."

Take: significa llevar algo a un sitio 

We take things to the place we are going to. We take them from the place where we are to another place. Take is used in relation to a starting point.

"I'm going to take some cake to Paul's house for his birthday party."

"Take your dog away from me."

"Please take your bag there."

“I will take a salad to the picnic”

FOR AND DURING (Diferencias)

FOR AND DURING

During: During  es una preposición, la que es usada antes de un sustantivo  (during + noun) para decir cuándo algo sucede. No se refiere a cuánto tiempo dura.

 Example:

"Nobody spoke during the presentation."

"We get plenty of snow here during the winter."

During'en cambio se usa para períodos de tiempo generales  y no para un período definitivo de tiempo como 18 minutos.

You can say: during the afternoon/the day/the holiday/the week 

During + sustantivo: señala el momento durante el cual se desarrolla la acción, NO la duración de ésta. Indica un periodo de tiempo que tiene nombre propio.

During the summer - Durante el verano
During the concert - Durante el concierto
During the meal - Durante la comida
During the holidays - Durante las vacaciones
During the Middle Ages - Durante la Edad Media
During my childhood - Durante mi infancia

OJO: NO SE PUEDE DECIR: DURING THREE HOURS, DURING ONE WEEK, DURING TWO YEARS 

For: For is a preposition which is used with a period to say how long something goes on:

"Simon has been sleeping for 8 hours."

"We waited for 30 minutes outside your house."

For three hours - Por tres horas
For one week - Por una semana
For two years,... Por dos años
