LA FECHA EN INGLÉS

Formato de fecha

En inglés existen 2 tipos de formatos de fecha uno usado en Gran Bretaña (y países de influencia) y el otro usado en Estados Unidos.

-Formato de fecha en Reino Unido

El formato de fechas británico es similar al del español:
Formato largo de fecha británico:

18 August 2015 18 de agosto del 2015

Formato corto de fecha británico:

18/08/2015 18/08/2015

El formato británico también es usado en: Irlanda, Australia, Nueva Zelanda, Canadá y Sudáfrica.

-Formato de fecha en los Estados Unidos (American English)

Lo más curioso del formato americano es que el mes se coloca antes que el día.
-Formato largo de fecha:

Wednesday, August 18, 2015 o
Wednesday, August 18th, 2015
18 de agosto del 2010

-Formato corto de fecha:

8/18/2015 (atención: mes/día/año)
18/8/2015 (día/mes/año)

Lectura de las fechas (dates in spoken English)

Hay que tener en cuenta que los días del mes son números ordinales. Veamos un ejemplo:
Formato británico:

Ej:1 January 2000 se lee como the first of January two thousand

Ej: 8 February 2011: The eigth of February twenty eleven. Siempre deberemos incluir the y of.

Formato americano:

Ej. January 1st 2000 se lee como January (the) first two thousand

Ej:10/11/2010:October eleventh, two thousand ten( or twenty ten)

Lectura de los años en inglés

En inglés los años se pueden leer de 2 formas:

·        Leyendo el año como un número, es decir el año 2009 se diría como two thousand and nine.

·        Leyendo el año dividiéndolo en 2 partes, es decir, el año 1996 se diría nineteen ninety six.
